Natural Pest Control in the Home and Garden

Bugs can sometimes be a nuisance, but they are in many cases necessary.  Trying to kill bugs with harmful chemicals is not always the way to go. Often nature provides many powerful forms of natural pest control that keep pests further away, from where you want don’t want them to be without all of the harmful products.

Companion planting

Companion planting is a great way to deter pests from eating your produce. For instance including hot pepper varieties among your bell and sweet peppers can decrease the amount of caterpillars that snack on your peppers.  Growing onions and garlic as well as herbs like rosemary  help with this also. Citronella , Lemon Thyme Lemon grass All of these plants repeal mosquito’s. this is great because who wants those guys around anyways. These plants are perfect to plant around door ways and patios because they have a great aroma and when dried they can be used in a great natural bug repellent recipe. All natural pest control does not have to be complicated or expensive.

Natural deterrents

Placing  salt around the edge of your  garden or adding a cup filled with beer is a commonly known deterrent for slugs and snails. Both are bee friendly and natural ways to deter.   Corn gluten can be applied to the base of weeds as an natural herbicide. Kaolin clay can be mixed with water and sprayed onto the stems, leaves, and bases of plants; the spray dries into a film, protecting your plants from unwanted munching. Remember to spray at night, to avoid hitting bees while they are pollinating.

Bug Patrol

Keeping good bugs around can also help you keep others away. Lady bugs are a natural form of pest control because they actually eat the aphids! Which is awesome because they can really take over your garden quick and destroy your plants and hard work very fast.
